You should definitely have a complete and thorough title search done on
the parcel to uncover any and all liens, unpaid taxes and/or other
encumbrances against it before making a decision about buying it.

You would also want the county to re-assess the tax value of the land.  If there were
"improvements" (ie: buildings) that have been removed, then the tax value of the land
should be considerably lower than what it used to be.  The county auditor is not always
up to date in re-assessing the value of property.

Dragon, first step is to find out who owns the property and determine if they can be located.  If the property was demolished by the city, a lien will proceed to go on the property but they may expunge it.  If taxes were delinquent prior 2004 you have until April to use them as a means to forfeit.  In targeting property, you always want to get into the insides of a title.

Concerning recent demolition of houses, does anyone know who to contact about purchasing vacant property in which the house/building has been demolished by the city? I had heard there was talk of the city offering such properties to the owners of adjacent properties. Appreciate any info anyone may have.
