Jay WKTL is located in the Struthers High School building 111 Euclid Ave.

You must remember that the vocational schools have more than one subject hence more students. I doubt that other school systems would go along with sending a handfull of students to Struthers for a single class. Remember that the students operate the station only during regular school hours.

Dennis would be in a better position to speak on the logestics of bussing in students from other districts.

I'm pretty sure some students in Youngstown take classes at their home school for part of the day and then go to Choffin for the remainder of the day.  Perhaps some students from other districts could take the WRTA (or drive themselves) to the Struthers location.
Is the Struthers radio class location near the Struthers-Buckeye WRTA bus route?

Dennis, this is just a suggestion, but you might approach Pete Gabriel to fill in as a teacher until a perminant teacher could be found. Pete might even lead you to a younger man who has all the qualifications the board would require.

Also wouldn't Jay's suggestion pose a transportation problem since it would not draw enough students to justify bussing them from their home schools and back just for that one class?

I guess the question would be if the Vocational School wanted to take over the program, find a teacher, and fund

the program and the teacher.

Question

Would it be possible to let students from other nearby school systems enroll in the Struthers radio program?  This would be somewhat like the Mahoning County vocational school serving students of member school districts.

The Board of Education is not shutting down the station nor is it going to sell it. WAPS-FM out of Akron will supply programming Sunday-Friday 24 hours a day just like they are doing today and everyday. We will continue to run our locally produced ethnic music programs on Saturday from 7am-11pm......

Struthers High radio class likely to sign off next spring

This is sad. According to the article, the Board of Education hasn't found someone to take over the class. Stephen J. Gercevich would roll over in his grave if the board shut down or sold the station.

What's the story behind the story Dennis?
