There is a book that was published that gives the history of the Police Department ... I have a copy in my library but you might find a copy at the Public Library.

Hopefully Greg might find it in his heart to build a web site on the YPD. My Webshots site does have some YPD pictures.

I wish there was a website about YPD, so we could check out their history, vehicles, equipment ect.

The birth of the Youngstown Police Department

On August 4, 1868 appointed one night policeman for each ward with each councilman appointing the man who would serve in this position. At the same time council authorized a voluntary police force of 50 men who would serve without pay. The night policemen would not start work until a year or two later.

Prior to that time police authority rested with town marshals.
