I Like the new Crosswalk Signs

Why?Town

They are fairly good for pedestrians but a bit less so for drivers. At least it seems that way on Rt45 through Niles where one countdown ends a millisecond before the yellow light but at another intersection the yellow light doesn't happen until at least 10 seconds after the countdown reaches zero. And of course there's a couple of countdowns that end differently than those two.


I bet that Niles did theirs like that so they could hand out more red light tickets and collect more $$$ in fines.

Several intersections in the fifth ward have new crosswalk signs.  These signs light up and count down the number of seconds before the traffic light changes.  This is great for pedestrians.

This is also good for drivers.  You are able to see the count down from a few hundred yards away and then slow down as the count down starts to approach zero.  This may prevent cars from trying to go through a yellow light which will turn red in another second.
