Free Donut for Me

I stopped in a chain donut shop today.  I walked up to the counter, but no one was there.  After a minute or so I walked over to the pickup station.  I noticed an employee was busy at the drive-up window.  At this point, someone in the kitchen noticed me and then told a man to go to the front counter.  I told the male employee that no one was taking orders at the counter for several minutes.  I ordered a donut and the male employee said, "it's on me", you should not have waited that long to be served.
