Bait Cars

I saw this on a cable news show.  It works very well.  Nice to see the crooks get caught.

YPD and other PD's in the area should do this.  It would cut auto theft way down and maybe our car insurance would go down.

Has the YPD ever considered using bait cars as a way of reducing auto theft?  A bait car is a special vehicle equipped with an internal camera, microphone, GPS equipment, remote locking doors, and a remote motor shut off.  The cars are parked in high crime areas.  When the car is stolen, a signal alerts the police who are then able to track the vehicle and make an arrest.  The car's camera and microphone contain all the evidence that is needed for a conviction.  Bait cars have been used in the northwest and have resulted in a 45% drop in car thefts.
