In my mammoth library of old time radio programs I have a Spike Jones Show file in which it was announced that he would be appearing in Youngstown but am no good at ftp, but if you want to stop by and get anything from my files let me know.

Too bad they didn't say at what theater he would be appearing at, but I assume that it was the Palace Theatre.

That staircase railing was awesome (and quite beautiful)

I would really really love to get permission to enter and photograph the
remaining mansions around Wick Park that are or were?) owned by the
notorious Mr. Van Sickle...

These mansions are basically an endangered species of building... and
my gut tells me that something very, very bad is going to happen
to all of them sometime soon.... it would be a shame to see that happen
and not have a historical record of them before it does.

I have put up a new link on the website, with the few photos that I do
have, of the mansion on Park Avenue.. if I can get ahold of more photos
and/or video about the place, I will put them up on the site.

If anyone wants to anonymously send files or photos of this house, or anything
else, to the website they can do so via an FTP login I created for people
that want to contribute content, etc.

You can ftp to ftp://allthingsyoungstown.net, login as "yhhb" and use the
password "youngstown".

This is a public ftp directory, so others will be able to read anything you
upload here....send me an email if you upload anything, and I will  add it
to the website...

I've been trying for months now to get folks to contribute content and the
server has tons of disk space for this kind of stuff...

I toured 2 of the 3 houses that burned last night, last summer.

This house was the middle of the 3:

There wasn't much left of this house.  It had been chopped up beyond recognition.  This is the only original feature that I remember seeing in the house:

This is the southern of the three:

This house was in terrible condition inside, but was very remarkable in its day.  It was way beyond what I would have wanted to tackle, if it weren't going to be demolished anyway.  But, there were still features that could have been salvaged.

I didn't go into the northern of the three houses, but I don't think it was vacant last summer.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
