I want to put in a good word for the Timebank. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with this new concept for the Mahoning Valley. It's a really great idea and is an international movement.

Hi Folks,

After attending the Mahoning Valley for Change meeting Saturday, I wish to share a little of that   information. Perhaps you've seen President Obama's TV spots asking for citizen participation. If you compare some of the TV adds Obama's message seems a bit confusing . I had hoped to learn and here is what I found. The confusion is that Obama's name is prominently connected to three major efforts. Here are the sites with a short information tease;

~  www.WhiteHouse.gov  is the official web site for the White House and President Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States.

www.barackobama.com is the site that was used in the campaign to get Obama elected and is now reorganizing into a issue driven organization which is also connecting those  activists to greater political participation. The site evolved inti http://my.barackobama.com You can visit the site to find a group meeting in your local area. Meetings of the  Mahoning Valley for Change group falls under this banner.  I would describe this organization as a vertical one, with information flowing from the community to political leaders and from the political
leadership to the grassroots.

http://www.usaservice.org/  President Obama believes that we, as Americans, have a responsibility to help our communities and fellow citizens. In summoning a new spirit of service, he is calling on us to make an enduring commitment to our neighborhoods. This organization is more along the traditional volunteerism, i.e., groups events for worthy efforts, short and longer projects etc. This organization functions horizontally at the community level and allows for creative efforts to be generated by anyone.

Either of the above efforts could be processed through a program based TimeBank account. Why? Time Dollars are but a means to an end. Because TimeBanking broadly redefines work by rewarding Time Dollars for caring labor, civic labor, social justice labor, and cultural labor.

"The economy is going to get worse before it gets better."

That's what President-elect Barack Obama said on NBC's "Meet the Press". Everywhere you look, communities, governments, foundations, and ordinary citizens are looking for ways to stretch their dollars and do more with less money.

TimeBanking offers win-win solutions to the economic crisis and opens doors to new possibilities through Co-Production and Time Banking. We can do more with MORE - more people, more communities and more impact. If you contribute a service to the above Obama citizen involvement effort, be a TimeBank Ambassador as well, please invite your peer Obama project members to join our TimeBank service exchange network.

Cordially,
Tony Budak
