Global Village at the Art Outreach Gallery in the Eastwood Mall
Everyone is Invited to Participate

Youngstown State University
Advanced Art Students and Art Education Graduation Class
January 23 - February 22, 2009

Friday, January 23, 2009 through Sunday, February 22, 2009, the Art Outreach Gallery in the Eastwood Mall in Niles, Ohio will feature artworks created by advanced fine art students and art education graduating class from Youngstown State University. The Gallery also features a collaborative community project "Global Village".

The collaborative community project "Global Village" intends to playfully engage the ideas of individuality, identity, community and connections in the contemporary world using metaphorically the concepts of village and globalization.  The title suggests a relationship between the apparently opposite terms of village referring to a localized, specific community and globalization as related to a diverse, large community of undefined identity.

Unlike the existing discussion on the theme of Global Village that refers mainly to modern communication technologies this project aims to simply celebrate diversity and provide a small scale venue - to our community - for contemplation on what globalization means and can mean.

Join the YSU graduates in the design of the Global Village by making an element out of play dough and adding it top the village. Everyone is invited to participate in the project. The floor installation will 'grow' for the time of the exhibit. Special thank you to Dragana Crnjak and Dr. Samuel Adu-Poku, Assistant Professors at Youngstown State University, as exhibition coordinators for this public art show.

The following students are exhibiting in the show entitled, "Multiple Perspectives":
Art Education – Jennifer Beam, Angela Damore, Jocelyn Himes, Jessica Izzo, Megan Mussler and Dave Raghanti.

Advanced Studio Art students - Amy Ensley, William Flowers, David Maverman, Lindsay McConahy, .Page McNamara, Kristina Smith, Zoe Sniderman, Heesun Sung, William Wharry, Tom Davidson, Rose Prample, Renee Masternick, Zeke Luman, Daniel Rauschenbach, Melissa Perry and Carolyn Roble.

The exhibition is made possible by the generous donations of the Eastwood Mall and the Warren Junior Women's League/GFWC. The Gallery operates through all volunteer assistance; if you would like to participate in helping assist with gallery sitting, or provide other volunteer services, contact Gail Stark at 330.394.3384.
