Title: Crickets On East Midlothian
Post by: jay on December 03, 2014, 06:12:00 AM
Anyone living in the East Midlothian area should attend the Youngstown City Council meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. Council is supposed to vote on a resolution affecting Crickets live entertainment practices.

The complaint about Crickets IS NOT because they are doing anything illegal, but is because of the noise of their outside events. They are in a primarily residential location and not everyone appreciates loud music when they are trying to sleep. If they would keep their music inside there would not be any complaints. Even the 7th Ward Councilman is supportive of the action.

Some of the patrons of Crickets will be attending a council meeting for the first time.   Perhaps the experience will inspire one of them to run for city council.

Jay, you might want to take this document with you to the City Council meeting.

CRICKETS has arranged for shuttles to take supporters to the City Council meeting. Anyone interested in going should be at CRICKETS at 3:30 PM.

Just to be clear
The resolution put up by John Swierz tonight is to deny Crickets their liquor License renewal for next year
This has nothing to do with entertainment venues

I drove past Crickets last night.  The establishment was all decorated with lights for the holiday (unlike the rest of the neighborhood).

What are you saying Jay ... that anyone who doesn't decorate the outside of their homes  must not have the Christmas Spirit? How many homes on the West Side have the outside of their homes all lit up for Christmas?
The spirit of Christmas is not in showey decorations but in what is in the hearts of those who dwell within.
I'm absolutely certain that Joseph didn't spend weeks decorating the stable for Christmas, or that our Blessed Lord and Saviour will not judge us on how gaudy we make our house every Christmas.
Jesus told us that outward appearances have no count with Him, it's what's in our hearts, and what we do "in secret" that what matters with Him.
How many of the people that have their houses all lit up have taken the time to reach out to an orphen child, or gave so much as a crum of bread to an elderly widow?
Putting a few pennies in the Salvation Army Kettle are meaningless if dollars have been spent on decorations for the outside of your house. Those are wasted dollars that will help  no one.

Crickets has no citations against them for loud music
Crickets is getting a catch basin to remedy the flooding issues that were caused
Crickets is enclosing the patio to help with the noise
All,of these things cost a lot money
All of these things are on hold until this is resolved
Bottom line, if they lose the license they will have to close
Another vacant building or a bar that could be much worse
Maybe the Handle Bar could move in there

The police report stated that the officer responding to the complaint heard nothing, and in both reports it was a CC complaint, but it had to have come from someone living directly behind Crickets. [SEE PREVIOUS POST WITH LINK TO THE LEGISLATION ALONG WITH POLICE REPORTS]

This issue should have never gone as far as to threaten the existence of this business.

Outrageous!

The issue brought 150 people to the meeting ...
According to the 7th Ward Councilman, 16 people complained to him, yet according to YPD reports the complaints made to them came from CC's (Concerned Citizens) who wouldn't give their names to the Police.

West side Councilman Paul Drennen said the Crickets issue was not an extreme case that merited an objection from Youngstown City Council.

I'm glad we have a councilman with common sense.

And the President of Council said that the city would look like a fool if it sent the complaint down to Columbus without and citations. The resolution would be sent right back to the City.

I would really hate to see Crickets close.  The place is a south side landmark.  Countless fundraisers have been held there. Countless political rallies have been held there.
The food is awesome, prices are reasonable.  There have been very few, if any, fights/shootings/etc at Crickets. It's probably the tamest of all the bars on the south side!

Why not give them time to make the necessary changes needed to cut down on the noise, rather than trying to close them down, which is essentially what they're doing by trying to revoke their liquor license.

Maybe someone living on or near East Midlothian could organize a South Side Dine Out at Crickets to show support for this business.

Jay, Crickets is one of the most popular spots in Youngstown. The problem is with a a group of Brownlee Woods malcontents that want it closed, and Crickets popularity doesn't matter to them.

It is to the 7th Ward what the MVR and Golden Dawn are to the North Side.

Nice to see that council is showing some modicum of intelligence about this.  One would think that
there would have to be a history of citations required in order to vote to pull their liquor license

The strong showing of support certainly helps make their case for "sour grapes".

There were around 50 people at the City Council meeting Wed night to show support for Crickets.

There might have been more but there were quite a few people there in support of the Fire station as well.
