Most of the north side streets are red brick covered by asphalt. Some roads were never paved, such as Redondo on the east side of Fifth Ave, and many of the streets in Briar Hill.
How they ever thought that covering those streets over with asphalt was necessary is beyond me.

Many streets in Youngstown were red brick. Most of them still have the brick underneath the multiple layers of asphalt. You can see it sometimes at the bottom of the potholes....

Remember when South Avenue was a nice brick street?

Now its asphalt pavement is full of potholes.
