Wasn't there a dairy in the corner of the building facing Elm Street?

Towntalk,

Do you know what businesses were in the Rayen building when it first opened?

Towntalk

If all the people that have visited this thread had chipped in $20 perhaps this building could have been saved from the wrecking ball. At this point in time, $49,620.00 could have been raised.

One of the things I grabbed when I took these pics. Cleaned up and rewired.

YSU purchased the property back in 09, so they took care of the demo. I need to head back up today and rummage through the basement leftovers for anything worth saving.

I hope it was not taxpayers monies that torned down those bldgs.

I thought I already posted this, probably did but here goes:

My mother and I managed the Rayen Dorm for a man named Smith during the era of Tony's
Hideaway and Pogos on the street level.  Apartments on the upper floor were converted into
a dorm, no kitchens.

Mr. Smith had two side

I have some fond memories of living upstairs on the second floor, right at the corner of
the building, over top BOTH taverns....nice and noisy at night.  We used to come outside to get
into my car in the small, side parking lot - only to find large, heavy stone blocks on the
trunk lid courtesy of some drunk students the night before.

One club used to have the front end of a Camaro mounted on the wall, set up to look like it
was crashing through the wall.....the Elm street side, if I recall correctly.

Sad to see the place go, but also time for it to happen.......

My mother got a job as the resident manager at Parkway Tower about half way through my
sophomore year at Rayen High School, so we moved out, and moved up the hill to Wick
Park.....a BIG move up from the viewpoint of a fifteen year old.

:)

Amazing ... over 1660 hits, yet only 5 posts counting this one.
The space will be used for parking according to WKBN-27 News.

What will YSU do with the lot once demo is complete? ???
