Would have been better if DS had been more careful in his writing. My old friend of fond memory Clingan Jackson would never have made that sort of blunder.

I think that the BOE's decision wasn't made til this afternoon, as the time on the later article is 2:12 pm.
So the early article that you linked to, TT, was probably correct at that time.

The Vindy is going to have to be more careful on how they report stories ... the early story was as Peggy pointed out wrong, and a whole new story had to be written. WHY, knowing that the BOE was going to deal with the matter today did they lead with misinformation?

Thank you Peggy for the update. Bless your heart.  :)

Now all that you folks need to do is overcome the influence of the local Black clergy. The 9/17 City Council Meeting with Rev. Simon's speech and the 9/18 Board of Election Videos can be seen here:

It's an important issue - and for, or against, EVERYONE who wants to
have their voice(s) heard should get out and vote once it is on the
ballot.  The public needs to speak its collective mind more often, and
more clearly.

According to today's Vindicator the 5 Ward Charter Amendment is still not on the Ballot for Nov. 4th.  Due to there being 2 conflicting amendments the Board of Elections refused both until Council can get it's act together and send in a single Charter Amendment.
The group supporting the Charter Amendment said that they will go into court to force the Board of Elections to put it on the ballot, but they haven't said what they will do if the court rules in favor of the Board of Elections.
And what happens if on November 4th it is on the ballot but fails? They'll keep putting it on the ballot until the voters come to their senses and votes the way the Charter group wants them to vote, and in the process, they'll force the City of Youngstown to pay 100% of all court costs plus a penalty fine. That'll teach the city who is the boss and who isn't.

The Vindicator reported today that it is Rev. Kenneth Simon of New Bethel Baptist Church that is opposed to reducing the wards to 5, but it doesn't say why he's opposed.

When Rev. Simon spoke to Council he made clear why he was opposed to the 5 ward plan and stated that there will be a public meeing in October sponsored by his group in opposition to the charter amendment. Rev. Simon is one of the most influentual Black clergymen in Youngstown and what he says will pack a real punch within the Black community.

I fail to see how moving the physical boundaries around with a ward reduction is going
make [all of the bad] people of the city pack up and move into the better neighborhoods,
thereby ruining them...(?)

The same people, good and bad, will still be living in the same places when these
imaginary lines are redrawn, will they not?

Any word about which church is involved? Which clergyman?

PD

Yes, they will run a dirty false campaign against the initiative saying it is racist and politically motivated

There is now organized opposition to the ward reduction charter issue.  A minister of a south side church is organizing his congregation to defeat this ballot issue.
