About the Mahoning Valley
The Mahoning Valley is comprised of a group of communities in the Northeast Ohio & Western Pennsylvania area in the United States of America. The common bond is the Mahoning River. The watershed covers several counties. The county seat of Mahoning County is Youngstown, Ohio and it is a little over an hour's drive from both Cleveland and Pittsburgh on Interstate 80. Youngstown also happens to be midway between Chicago and New York City. This location makes it ideal for commerce. The county seat of Trumbull County is Warren, Ohio. It is about a 20 minute drive northwest from Youngstown. Both cities offer the Mahoning Valley many wonderful attractions and business opportunities. The Youngstown Warrren Regional Airport is a 20 minute drive northward from Downtown Youngstown. Interstate and railway access are abundant in the valley.

The center of Youngstown boasts a growing arts community and professional business district. DeYor Performing Arts Center, which is home to the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra has been expanding both physically and artistically in recent years. The new Chevrolet Centre, home of the SteelHounds hockey team, will also present arena football with Mahoning Valley Thunder in the near future. Plans to renovate a long vacant and elegant movie theater are in the works at this time. Just north of the city’s center, Stambaugh Auditorium is home to the Monday Musical Club which brings many fine performers and arts events to the area. The Butler Institute of American Art sits face to face with the McDonough Museum of Art. Both are also just north of Downtown Youngstown in the heart of Youngstown State University. Youngstown State University boasts excellent educational opportunities and a nationally acclaimed sports program. The Wick Neighbors have plans to continue to improve the area. Youngstown is home to several community theaters. The Youngstown Playhouse has been around the longest, followed by the Oakland Center for the Arts and the Victorian Players. Mill Creek Park presents a gorgeous woodland setting smack dab in the middle of the urban atmosphere. Fellows Riverside Gardens sits atop a hill and overlooks the city of Youngstown.
We've taken some licks -- that's for sure. Youngstown was the third largest steel producer in the nation at one time. After several steel mills closed, a once booming industrial center struggled and faded. The steel mills were the basis of the community and were responsible for the area's economic boom and the wonderful mix of cultures. The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor hosts the local archives for the Ohio Historical Society. The Arms family Museum hosts the Mahoning Valley Historical Society. An article outlining Youngstown's History can be found in the wikipedia. We will remember our past as we move forward and explore other industrial and technological avenues. Youngstown 2010 is the long range plan to bring the city into a new century full of promise and growth potential.
If you are looking for a place to raise a family, retire to, or to do business in, the Mahoning Valley is the place to look into. It has been noted to have the most affordable housing in the nation. The cultural diversity makes for interesting eating and our residents can always find entertainment and educational activities.
