Building Extended Families Where We
Live In N. E. Ohio
The TimeBank of the Mahoning Watershed
This announcement to invite you to
help build "a service exchange program based on Time Dollars, the currency
of equality that empowers individuals to utilize their assets, to enhance their
lives, neighborhood and community". Will you consider joining
us?
Time Banking is a really interesting
way of bringing people together to build community. It's a very simple idea -
you earn a Time Dollar for helping, and you then spend the Time Dollars
earned to receive help. That's the basis of it. Time Dollar exchanges generate giving
and receiving and that can strengthen our sense of community in often unexpected
ways.
There are Time Banks in 23 countries, with interest growing all
the time. Time Banking is also spreading in the United States.
The Time Banking website at www.TimeBanks.org
provides more information about the many different kinds of Time Banks that are being created, and where.
Time Banking is an Internet age
solution for weaving communities of mutual caring. By joining a TimeBank, you get to know
who in your community is ready to play the game of being community. You sign up for what you want to give
and find out what others want to give.
Each interaction is like a thread that weaves a safety net, built
locally, funded locally, and not subject to the whims of government.
Here in N.E. Ohio, individuals are
now participating in the TimeBank of the Mahoning Watershed.
Registration is free, so take a look at http://www.clnews.org/tbmw/index.htm
for an opportunity to learn more.
